funny noise

I took a test ride on an 86 and when going over humps in the road the bike made a funny noise. Sort of like the back tire was rubbing on something, sort of a tunnelying noise.
I looked for any sign of tire rubbing on anything but could not find anything,
could it be the shocks?
HUMMMM, comments please.
